Bad Check Program

Thousands of bad checks are passed every year in Pima County and merchants lose millions of dollars to bad checks.

To combat the problem of bad checks, the Pima County Attorney’s Office has a dynamic and impactful bad check program that tracks down bad check writers and recovers restitution for the merchant who has been defrauded.

County Attorney Barbara LaWall gives bad check writers an opportunity to make good on their bad check. Her program also helps Pima County merchants and individuals collect their losses from the bad check writer. A check writer who fails to make good on the bad check is criminally prosecuted.

Her bad check program has been identified and acclaimed as THE NUMBER ONE PROGRAM IN THE NATION.
