Since being elected in 1996, I have prided myself on four things:
These are guiding principles I have had since I began working and prosecuting in Pima County more than 30 years ago.
Each year during my tenure, overall office productivity and effectiveness has increased in the areas of trials, juvenile and youth prevention programs, fines imposed and victim restitution and bond forfeitures collected.
Our community faces many challenges in the future. To meet those challenges, I have a proven record of targeting our limited resources to take violent offenders off our streets and offering innovative solutions by implementing effective crime prevention programs.
When I took office in 1996, the percentage of violent offenders by trial was 24%. With effective targeting, and a concentrated effort on the part of the Criminal Division to use our limited resources most effectively, last year 52% of the criminal cases tried involved violent offenders.
Upon taking office, I took on the challenge of creating innovative crime prevention programs and initiated the Community and Neighborhood Prosecution Unit to build alliances and forge partnerships with schools, neighborhoods, the business community, law enforcement and the courts.
Under my leadership, several highly innovative unique programs to fight and prevent youth crime were developed
and initiated.
This is just a small sampling of the successes of the Pima County Attorney’s Office. This election I need your help to get my positive message and record of effective leadership out to the voters of Pima County. Please support my re-election campaign by making a contribution and volunteering to help.
